Gaurab Ekattar, a cultural organisation, on Saturday submitted a letter to the Election Commission seeking cancellation of candidatures of all 25 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders contesting the 11th general election
They went to the commission and submitted the letter to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in this regard.
The High Court cancelled Jamaat s registration as the party s charter contradicted our country s constitution. The International Crimes Tribunal called Jamaat a criminal party for its role during 1971, the letter read.
Jamaat s registration with the commission was cancelled on August 1, 2013 by the High Court. But the commission finally scrapped the registration on October 29 this year.
Despite that, 25 leaders of Jamaat are contesting the December 30 polls, in clear violation of election code of conduct, the letter read.
